Premise:

Stargate SG-1 is a tv series based on the Stargate (1994) movie.

The series follows the adventures of SG-1, one of many teams in Stargate Command. Stargate Command is a SCI-classified ("Sensitive Compartmented Information") operation based out of Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado. Stargate Command uses an alien artifact called a "Stargate" to travel to distant planets.

News:

(05/04/06) - According to TVGuide.com's Michael Ausiello, Morena Baccarin (Firefly, Serenity, Justice League Unlimited) has been cast as the adult version of Adria, Vala's daughter who was sired by the Ori to lead their crusade in the milky way galaxy. Her Stargate character will first appear as a child in the season premiere, "Flesh and Blood." Her first appearance as the adult Adria is believed to in "Counterstrike."

(03/29/06) - According to Gateworld.net, Richard Dean Anderson is coming back to Stargate SG-1. Anderson will appear on the series' 200th episode titled "200." Anderson will also guest star on spin-off series Stargate Atlantis in its upcoming third season. Anderson will also appear in other episodes of Stargate SG-1.

Anderson is not the only returning actor. Willie Garson, playing Martin Lloyd, returns after his two previous appearances on the series. Martin was a human from another planet who was hiding on Earth after deserting a war, but couldn't remember any of it. It was Martin's unconscious knowledge that created the fictional TV series "Wormhole X-Treme!"

"We'll see Willie Garson," executive producer Brad Wright said. "He's coming back. It's sort of a full circle thing. The story, in short strokes, is Martin Lloyd has come to the S.G.C. because even though 'Wormhole X-Treme!' was canceled after three episodes, it did so well on DVD they're making a feature. A little kiss to 'Serenity' and 'Firefly,' which was possibly one of the best canceled series in history. And we're the Air Force consultants on the script."

"So it starts with a read-through," Wright said. "But the vignettes spring from suggestions by our characters, and material in Martin's script which is kind of outrageous, too. And we jump all over the place -- I mean, we are going all over the place in this story. It's out there ... in a good way! It's fun. Hopefully it's funny. Hopefully it's very funny -- if not, it's at least fun."

(01/24/06) - Beau Bridges (General Hank Landry) told SCI FI Wire that he will be heading back to Vancouver to begin work on the 10th season.

"I read the first script, and we've got our hands full with the Ori again, and it's all going on," Bridges said. "It really hits the fan right at the first part of the show this time. The first episode in this 10th season really gets off with a bang. Oh, my goodness, we're in deep trouble. But don't worry. We'll get it together."

"The regulars that were there before—Michael Shanks and Chris [Judge] and Amanda [Tapping]—they've been so nice to me and supportive in my first year. So now I can go back and give them a bad time now that I'm an old vet."

"We'll be doing our 200th episode of the series this year," Bridges said. "It's amazing. What a great opportunity for me to be able to join this tremendously successful series. ... I'm looking forward to it. It's tough. There's big battles ahead. But that's what makes it fun."

(11/21/05) - The SCI FI Channel has announced today that the principal cast members of both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis will return. Joe Flanigan, Torri Higginson, David Hewlett, Rachel Luttrell, Paul McGillion, and Jason Momoa will all return to Stargate Atlantis next season. Ben Browder, Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, Michael Shanks, and Beau Bridges will all return to Stargate SG-1 next season. Also, Claudia Black (Vala) will join the cast of Stargate SG-1.

(10/25/05) - The SCI FI Channel has announced that it has ordered a 10th season of Stargate SG-1 and a third season of Stargate Atlantis. Production on both (20-episode) seasons will begin in early 2006 for summer premieres. The first half of Stargate SG-1's ninth season has averaged 2.4 million viewers per week. With a 10th season, Stargate SG-1 becomes the longest-running SF drama in American television history.

(06/06/05) - Now Playing Magazine recently spoke to Richard Dean Anderson about his reasoning for leaving Stargate SG-1,

"The situation I put to myself, my immediate future that is, employment-wise, is that I don't want to leave Los Angeles for a while. I'd rather not do a series that would keep me end-to-end five days a week. Part of my situation [with] MGM in the latter years was to create a schedule that allowed me to spend more time down here in Los Angeles. It's gotten to the point where I can't even do what I need to do to accommodate my daughter now. I've had some offers to do some things that would shoot here."

"I've done a couple of scenes for Stargate to help launch the ninth season and help make it clear that O'Neill is still alive and that we may see him again somewhere down the line," says Anderson. "May see him...May...May not... But may...But may not."

(05/24/05) - Scifi Wire has posted an article about Stargate SG-1: The Alliance, the upcoming Stargate SG-1 video game that will be released in October.

(03/01/05) - According to LexaDoig.org, Lexa Doig will have a recurring role in season nine, playing the new Medical Officer and daughter of General Hank Landry.

(02/07/05) - The SCI FI Channel has announced that Beau Bridges and Lou Gossett Jr. will join the cast of Stargate SG-1 for season nine. Bridges will play General Hank Landry, the new head of Stargate Command. Oscar winner Gossett joins the cast in a recurring role as a Jaffa leader who vies with Teal'c for political control of the new Jaffa nation.

(01/31/05) - According to Stargate SG-1 Solutions Beau Bridges has been giving the role of SGC's commanding general.

(01/18/05) - GateWorld recently did an interview with Ben Browder about his upcoming role.

(01/03/05) - According to Stargate SG-1 Solutions, two actors have emerged as front-runners for the role of Stargate SG-1’s new commanding general: Oscar and Emmy award winner Louis Gossett Jr. (Enemy Mine, An Officer And A Gentleman, and Iron Eagle) and Golden Globe winner Stacy Keach (Mike Hammer, Butterfly, and The Ninth Configuration).

(12/21/04) - Executive producer Robert C. Cooper recently spoke to Scifi Wire about Ben Browder's new role on Stargate SG-1.

"Ben is playing a military guy, a lieutenant colonel," Cooper said in an interview. "And I can't tell you his name yet. It hasn't been legally cleared yet, so it could still change."

"The audience just hasn't met him yet," he said. "He's actually played a key role in some major events that went on ... in the Stargate universe and was in fact very instrumental in helping SG-1 succeed in one of their more important missions. And as a result of that, he was given ... his choice posting. And he ultimately chooses to join SG-1. So when he first appears on the show, SG-1 will already know who he is. And we'll see some of those scenes and how he was basically woven into the tapestry of the show through flashbacks."

When asked by Scifi Wire about Brig. Gen. Jack O'Neill's role in the upcoming ninth season...

"His character is going to remain very much alive in the Stargate [SG-1] universe," Cooper said in an interview. "He ... is going to be integral in commanding what goes on at the SGC. As to the appearance of Richard Dean Anderson in the series, that's really still undetermined. We are very hopeful that Rick is going to agree to participate in a number of episodes, but I have no idea as to how many or when that will be resolved."

Cooper also said that the ninth season would introduce new villains and take the show in a new direction.

"While we say new direction, ... the concept of the series is very much pulled from the mythology of SG-1, and I think fans are going to be very excited about the direction we're going. ... One of the things we're going to be exploring in season nine is the origin of the Ancients and the Gatebuilders. And it's something I know fans have been sort of very curious about, and have sort of asked to see. And that is ... one of the things we're really going to be delving into: ... Who the Ancients really are, and where they came from, and we may even get a chance to go there."

"One of the things we've always done with Stargate ... [is] to reinvent ourselves all the time, and ... bring in new villains and anything we needed to do to keep the show fresh," he said. "And yet we still, I think, stuck to the core concept and the core team that started out at the beginning. And so fans of the show will still feel as though things are very comfortable and familiar, you know? We're still going to see Daniel Jackson and Teal'c and Carter and our new colonel going through the Stargate to alien worlds and getting into adventures. But there's going to be some big new dangers as well. We [will wrap] up a lot of storylines in season eight. And I think that, hopefully, fans are going to be very satisfied by the conclusion of season eight, and feel like we've really paid off a lot of the stories we've been building up over the last couple of years. And we're looking at season nine to start fresh with some new stories and a new take on the Stargate universe."

(12/15/04) - SCI FI Channel has announced that Ben Browder (Farscape) will join the cast of Stargate SG-1 in the show's upcoming ninth season. MGM is still working on a deal to bring back Richard Dean Anderson in some capacity.

(10/15/04) - The SCI FI Channel has announced that it has ordered a second season of Stargate Atlantis and a ninth season of Stargate SG-1. The channel has ordered 20 new episodes of each show and production on both is set to begin in March 2005 for summer premieres.

(9/27/04) - Amanda Tapping (Lt. Col. Carter) will make a cameo appearance in SCI FI Channel's upcoming original miniseries Earthsea. Tapping will play the part of Lady Elfarran, a ghost who appears to main character Ged (Shawn Ashmore), early on in the miniseries. Earthsea is a four-hour miniseries that premieres Dec. 13.

(6/08/04) - On July 5th the SciFi Channel will air the special one-hour program, "From Stargate to Atlantis: A SciFi Lowdown." The program will bring viewers up to speed with the Stargate setting. It will prepare viewers for both the eighth season of "Stargate SG-1" and the premiere of Stargate Atlantis.

(01/14/04) The SCIFI Channel reported that the first episode of Stargate SG1 for the second half of season seven delivered the highest rating for an original series in the networks history with a 2.2 rating.

(12/18/03) - Willie Garson, the actor that played Martin the stranded alien in "Wormhole X-treme," won the first round of Celebrity Poker Showndown (Tuesday nights, 9pm on Bravo). On January 13th, Willie will be back when the final Championship game is played with each of the individuals who won a game return.
