Official Website: Point Pleasant

Premise:

A drama series from executive producer Marti Noxon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). The Hollywood Reporter reports that the show is described as Peyton Place meets The Omen. John McLaughlin (A&E's The Great Gatsby) wrote the original script and is executive producing with Noxon and Original's Neal Moritz, Marty Adelstein and Dawn Parouse.

"The quiet beach community of Point Pleasant is about to get much louder when a sudden, violent storm washes in more than the tide. Local lifeguard Jesse spies Christina floating in the sea and immediately dives in to save her life. He takes her to the home of Dr. Ben Kramer, whose daughter Judy and wife Meg take an immediate liking to Christina. For Christina, Point Pleasant offers both respite from her protected boarding-school existence in New York, and the opportunity to search for her mother, Anne - who, surprisingly, grew up in the area but has never been a part of Christina's life. Aside from the Kramers' fondness for her, and Jesse's budding attraction, it seems that secret desires, repressed feelings and heightened emotions inexplicably begin to flare when Christina is near. Christina never knew her mother, and doesn't realize that she's never truly known her father, either. Christina is the offspring of a mortal woman and the Devil - and although she doesn't know it, the battle for her soul has begun." (Official description giving by FOX.)

News:

(10/25/05) - Marti Noxon, creator of Point Pleasant recently spoke to SCI FI Wire about the upcoming DVD set of the complete series, which includes five unaired episodes.

"I appreciate all the fans who have e-mailed me about the series, and some of them already got the last episodes somehow from overseas and told me that they liked the way it all ended," Noxon said.

The final five unaired episodes apparently amp up the storyline. "We took a beating in the ratings, but then they started to go, and we accelerated the action, and I really wanted her to be fully evil in the second season," Noxon said.

Did the show start off with a bad start? "After the first five episodes there was a shift, and we started to get more spooky, and we were taking it away from the soap-opera aspect," she said. "It was getting discombobulated with all the characters. It was The O.C. meets The Omen, but I didn't know what the beach and girls in the bikinis had much to do with anything."

"At first we got lambasted by some of the reviews, and somewhat deservingly. We got off to the wrong start. But when it started getting good, the critics were still being snarky about it and didn't give it another chance. By then, Fox didn't want to promote it anymore."

(03/25/05) - FOX has announced that the March 17 episode of Point Pleasant is the shows last episode to be aired. In an online posting, executive producer Marti Noxon told fans:

"[Tonight's] episode didn't quite come together the way I would have liked," Noxon reportedly said. "And I would have hated for that to be our final word."

(03/15/05) - Executive producer Marti Noxon recently told SCI FI Wire that the writing staff are crafting a season finale that will provide a sense of closure.

"I'm pretty much counting on not coming back," Noxon said in an interview. "Our numbers make North Shore look like a hit. That sucks, but I've gotten past the pain."

"The only thing that kills me is that I feel like the show got a lot better as we found what worked and what didn't work," Noxon said. "You go through this process and see results, and you're already dead, which is hard. And we are plotting the finale so that it will be satisfying if we get canceled. But it's also a big fat cliffhanger so we can continue the second season in my backyard sock puppet theater."

(01/31/05) - The third episode, "Who's Your Daddy?," dropped 26% from last week. It got a 3.1/5 (4.7 million viewers). The show came in at #11.

(01/24/05) - The second episode, "Human Nature," dropped 49% from the Pilot rating to a 4.1/6 in the overnights. It had 5.6 million viewers with a 2.7/7 in adults 18-49.

(01/21/05) - Point Pleasant ratings for 01/19/05: 8.0/11 in the overnights, 11.68 million viewers, and coming out at #3 for the night.

(01/20/05) - SciFi Weekly recently spoke with Dina Meyer about Point Pleasant.

(01/20/05) - Executive producer Marti Noxon told reporters that she wants to get former Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel star James Marsters on Point Pleasant. "Adam Busch, who was on Buffy as one of the super nerds, has a small role right now," Noxon told reporters at Fox's winter press preview on Jan. 17 in Universal City, Calif. "And I would really love to bring James Marsters in at some point. We've been talking to him."

(01/19/05) - CNN has posted an article about Point Pleasant.
