What does the church do when an excorsism fails? They call the Demon Hunter and he kills the possessed person. Half-human/half-demon, Jake Greyman (Sean Patrick Flannery) kills demons, but is he losing his own humanity while he fights for humanity’s survival? Now, a demon (Billy Drago) is loose on the Earth and impregnating women. Jake must kill this demon and the women with his demonic seed, before it is too late. The church has sent Sister Sarah Ryan (Colleen Porch) to help Jake. But will she help him find his humanity again, or only doom them both with her inexperience?
I was hesitant to watch this film. On one hand, the concept sounds neat and I like Sean Patrick Flannery (The Dead Zone, Young Indiana Jones), but it is a direct-to-DVD movie that I have heard little buzz on. So, I was curious to see it, but my expectations were low, to say the least.
Ah, but that is what I get for being a direct-to-DVD bigot. This movie was a surprisingly fun, sexually charged, action packed film. I can’t believe they pulled off the effects that they did with a low budget and only 18 days to shoot. I liked it after watching, but was even more impressed when I watched the behind the scenes featurette Demons Among Us which was also on the DVD. Did I mention to great martial art fight scenes and wire work?
Flannery did a great job as the gritty half-demon Jake Greyman. Billy Drago (The Hills Have Eyes, The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.) made an excellent creepy villain, no surprise there. Colleen Porch (Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation) also did a great job as Sister Sarah Ryan.
No, it won’t win an Oscar, but this film makes an excellent supernatural thriller.
