Plot Outline: Currently the story is rumored to be based loosely on one of Joss Whedon's story arcs in the Astonishing X-Men comic book series. The story was about a geneticist (Shohreh Aghdashloo) that finds a "cure" for mutants. In the original story Hank McCoy, aka The Beast (Kelsey Grammer), wanted the geneticist to "cure" him.

(12/17/03) - SCI FI Wire reported that X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner told them that she's juggling several X-Men related projects, including the upcoming third X-Men movie and two possible spinoffs centered on Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Storm (Halle Berry). Donner also confirmed that the third film will deal in part with Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) and her apparent transformation into Dark Phoenix, foreshadowed at the end of X2.

There are some rumors that the Sentinels will make an appearance in this one.
